Hi, Love your site, Bretton is one of my favourite places. Im from Barnsley originally but in Rotherham now. My dad used to take me briding a lot at Bretton. Im especially interested in the pic of the lesser spotted you took at Meltham on Pete Mellas site. He gave me a couple of sites but no luck so far, Ive been searching most of the spring for one!!! Is there any chance you could give me some info on the site(obviously I understand if you'd rather not) my e mail address is matthew.armitage@evanshalshaw.com
thanks in advance

Thanks Mick. The permit situation is a moot topic now that YWT no longer manage. The unwritten rule according to one or two I know who've been challenged is that those Trust members who have used the woodland for birdwatching and photography for many years are welcome to continue. So whilst the gates are unlocked, the signs remain to deter those who are merely curious. I visit very early morning and rarely see a soul. If you visit during normal hours you could ask at the visitor centre in case there's been a recent change in attitude - alternatively get down for 8am with a pair of binoculars/camera and enjoy!

Lovely shots here. Really capture the essence of spring.
I often visit Bretton as it's close to home & always have to bypass the permit only part-shame.
Are permits easy to obtain?

Well you have an idea what they look like now at least. They are tiny but quite restless so not too difficult to notice. The first real sign of spring I always think but most amazing is the distance they've travelled since last autumn.

hello - mark chesman told me of your website today - i work on the garden and estate team at ysp and your blog has shown me a whole new aspect to the park and reserve areas - when you have your head buried in rhododendron or whatever trying to restore the horticultural neglect which the mansion site has suffered it's not always possible to see what's going on above our heads or under our noses - your photos also are lovely - tremendous support to my rudimentary skills in identifying birds - give me a plant and i'll tell you its name but the avian world is beyond my ken - now i'll use your blog to extend my perceptual range - when you are next in the reserve would you please ask a warden or someone in the visitor centre to radio me as i would like to meet up -
